Turtles!

I was out of ideas for poems. So, I asked my little brother. He is eight years old and loves turtles. I asked him "What should I write a poem about?" his response: "Turtles!". And there you have it; I have written a poems about turtles.

Turtles!
Hidden there beneath the sand,
A small green creature's sitting.
My favorite animal across the land,
A turtle, soon, I'm getting.

I've begged for one forever,
My wish is coming true!
I don't care whether he's clever,
Or if he's green or blue.

He being shipped through UPS,
In a little box with holes,
My patience is being put to the test,
But as I wait I know:

My turtle, my turtle is coming,
And Pal will be his name,
And so these words I'm humming,
but.. I'm waiting all the same.

I wrote these words with a little tune, but I think they do just fine as a poem. Not my greatest work, but it gave my brother and myself a good laugh.

Studying

I had a math test this morning and was cramming for it last night. And now, after taking the test, I can write my poem.

Study!
You see the notes and work unfold,
The work to help you study math,
"Review your notes!" you have been told,
And so you start the study path.

The many terms are so confusing,
Your head is spinning 'round and 'round,
And pretty soon you will be snoozing,
It's past your bed-time you have found!

What will you do, your out of time!
You sadly put the notes away,
You hope that your grade will be fine,
"Oh please, oh please, oh please!" you pray!

My grade ended up at 100%. Yay!

My Friend's Tenth Birthday.

My friend Maddie turns ten tomorrow, and so I wrote a poem to go in her birthday card, it goes like this:

10th Birthday
Happy happy birthday, this birthday poem's for you,
You're becoming double digit, jump up and shout “Yoo-hoo!”
Your special day is here, you're ten, you're ten, you're ten!
That number sounds so lovely to repeat again, again!

Birthdays are the best, you get to have your pick,
Any flavor for your cake, or several layers thick.
Boxes and bags, presents with tags, and gifts from everyone.
Happy birthday, Maddie, I hope your day's been fun!

I hope she likes it!

Roller Coaster

I decided that if I could choose any kind of amusement park ride to ride, it would be a roller coaster. They create so much excitement! While riding one it's as if your flying. This poem is supposed to capture that moment when you're at the peak of the hill, and you know you're about to experience free fall, but you can't decide if you are nervous or excited.

At the Peak
You climb into the tiny seat
You get strapped in, you tap your feet
The ride jerks forward, lifts off the ground
You feel your heart begin to pound
The clicking noise pricks your nerves
You think about the drops and swerves
You know the moment's coming near
You'd rather be down there than here
Time slows down, and almost stops
You know you're 'bout to reach the drop!

I'm pretty proud of this one, and I have no idea what my next poem will be about.
