Lord of the Flies

This year for literature we read Lord of the Flies, and then my mom had me write a poem about it. As soon as she told me about it my mind started to form an idea, and soon enough I was writing a poem, I hope you enjoy it (It helps if you have read the book).

Still There on the Island

From the sky the plane fell
Two boys met in surprise
Fair haired Ralph finds the conch
The Lord of the Prize

The boys gather 'round
No adults that are wise
and Ralph they pick to be
The Lord of the Guys

Another boy, Jack,
Ralph he does despise
Paints his face for hunting
The Lord of Disguise

Fear has taken a grip
In the littluns' eyes
Maybe beast of the ocean or
The Lord of the Skies

When the pack splits in two
Forged are foes and allies
Ralph is left with quite few
Including Lord of Four Eyes

When the death chant begins
With savage cheers and cries
Jack's posse kills Simon
The Lords of Demise

Piggy stays with Ralph
And he tragically dies
When he tries to negotiate
Lord of Compromise

Jack's group chases Ralph
A cruel plan do they devise
Cross the island Jack goes
The Lord of the Lies

Then comes an adult
Ralph first meets his eyes
All the boys leave with him
The Lord of Goodbyes

Still there on the island
A skull that's gone dry
Was left a pig's head,
The Lord of the Flies

Something So Small

The next poem she, my mother, had me write I wrote about society as well as some other things...

Something So Small
Something so big from something so small
Doubtful looks from those who are tall
Brave has no interest in what Shy believes
Old doesn't trust Young so quickly leaves
Genius lacks patience to hear out Artistic
Logic ignores all coming from Mystic
Something so big from something so small
Yet no one bothers to listen at all

Haiku

It has been a while since I last posted a poem, but I still have been writing them. In fact this year in school (I am homeschooled) my mother has made poetry the ELA topic for September. The first thing she had me write was a Haiku, a type of Japanese poetry with only three lines that do not rhyme. Haikus also have a set rhythm to them 5 beats then 7 then 5 again, 17 in total.

Haiku
A flower bursting,
with the sweetest of perfumes
a tiny treasure

All of the Above

Sometimes you have an idea about what would make a good poem. I had none. So, laying in bed (as this was early in the summer morning), I looked around. As a young girl I have many colors in my room and they got me thinking about how each color represents something to me. I see black at funerals and sad occasions, so therefore when I see black the word sad jumps to mind, even if there is nothing to be sad about.

All of the Above
Red is for anger, passion and fire,
Orange is for hope, dreams and desire
Yellow is for greed and endless wealth
Green is for growing, sharing and health
Blue is for hard work, kindness and love
Purple is for learning to be all of the above.
